The 5 best autumn sunsets

What’s a better way to end a day on the Costa Brava than watching the sun dip into the horizon? Although there is no bad place to watch how the sky goes from lilac to vermilion, the Costa Brava offers us some of impressive places to choose from: the top of a mountain, the rocks of the Mediterranean Sea, a charming village, a cliff, or even a castle.

It’s time to relax and enjoy one of the day’s most special moments.

THE BEGUR CASTLE

Originally built in the early 11th century, the Begur Castle is one of the most emblematic sites of the Costa Brava. Today as always, the castle’s location is the perfect place to enjoy the Mediterranean Sea breeze and let the day fade behind its thick walls. Located a 10-minute walk from the centre of Begur, the Castle is an ideal setting for a memorable sunset.

Cap de Creus

Just north of the Costa Brava, Cap de Creus traces a rugged and rocky stretch of coastline. The cliffs erode as they are hit by the waves, at times forming new rock arches and incomprehensible grottoes. Joggers, cyclists, passers-by and photographers come there at sunset, knowing that the sunset spectacle in Cap de Creus is guaranteed.

ROCACORBA

For a high vantage point with an eagle view, we recommend Rocacorba. This Girona peak is located about 40 km from the coast but will give you a 360º view of all northern Catalonia. From a height of 991 meters, you will see the sun set through the Pyrenees while its glow reddens the entire border with France.

THE PORT OF PALAMÓS

The port of Palamós was built at the end of the 13th century after the collapse of the port of Torroella, which was devastated by the overflow of the Ter River. Throughout its history, the port of Palamós went through various commercial uses, including the cork trade in the late 19th century.  Today, it is a fishing port and meeting point for lovers of good views and good food. Its privileged location gives you a unique position facing the sunset. In the distance, Sant Antoni and Playa de Aro define the horizon while the last rays tinge them a spectacular red at sunset.

ROOFTOP 360ª (Begur)

Among the hills of Begur we find an authentic oasis of peace and tranquility. On the fifth floor of the Hotel Alta House you can enjoy one of the most impressive sunsets on the Catalan coast. At our Rooftop terrace you can set eyes on the best 360º panoramic view overlooking the Pyrenees, the fields of l’Empordà, the magnificent bay of Pals and the Medes Islands. In summer, its privileged position makes it the ideal place to enjoy a sunset while having a drink, snacks or relaxing reading a book.

Open year-round to watch the sunset. In the summer season there is bar service and food.

The same sunset seen from different vantage points with a common denominator: the feeling of freedom.
